During the crash, driver George Russell’s car was seen colliding from behind, sending Russell’s car into Zhou’s Alfa Romeo.
Zhou’s car flipped shortly after that initial contact and slid several hundred feet across the track, and then a gravel net before its speed sent it over the tire barrier and into the space between the barrier and the fence.

Zhou’s car slammed across his “halo”, a round bar that runs above where the driver is seated and protects the driver’s head.
Russell, who had been red-flagged, ran to the tire barrier in his car to check on Zhou.
Alfa Romeo team manager Beit Zehnder told the broadcast team at Sky Sport that Zhou, 23, had been speaking to the crew and was being transferred to a medical facility in Silverstone, England, where the race is being held.
According to the FIA, the governing body for F1, Williams Racing driver Alexander Albon was also being evaluated for possible medical treatment after Albon’s car collided with a pit wall.
“Both drivers were conscious and would be evaluated at a medical center,” the FIA said. “Further updates will be given in due course.”
The drivers returned to the pits to await the restart.
